History Behind the Logo
Why an Alpaca?

I have always been an animal lover and being an only child many of my best friends were of the four legged variety particularly in my formative years. On becoming a teenager my best friend at school introduced me to horse riding. I was instantly hooked and had my first pony by the age of thirteen and a half. My parents were not well off so I paid for my pony’s upkeep by working on the farm where he was kept.

By the time I went to University, my horse was becoming rather old and arthritic and so we were sadly forced to part company. At University I was privileged to become a member of the University riding team and in my final year was awarded a University Blue for combined training (show jumping and dressage).

Ten years ago and after a 26 year sabbatical from horse ownership, I purchased two Icelandic horses that rapidly become very much part of family life. Then eight years ago I met alpacas for the first time – it was love at first sight. Alpacas are similar to llamas but smaller and calmer. After establishing that they were compatible companions for horses, I gave my husband no peace until we had acquired two. We now have six alpacas and three llamas, each with their own unique character and mannerisms.

For me alpacas (and now of course llamas too) are inspirational creatures and thus became the inspiration behind my logo. They have made a difference to my life just as Robina Chatham Ltd can make a difference to your life.
